Under the Fly-over
“Who will save our street children and prostitutes from poverty and society’s oppression”
(December 1, 2007)
She’s a midnight princess
Walking to and from
As she casts her spell
From her hourly reign
In her majestic throne
She eats a peasant’s meal
In her command she serves
Those who yearn of worldly things
Under the fly-over
I see life pass her by
Not knowing the reason why
As the cars speed by
In the limelight
He’s an innocent prince
Dressed in pauper’s clothing
Hands stretching forth
Steals a bite just to survive
In his vast kingdom he reigns
With nothing to lose all to gain
In his command there are no rules
Dog eat dog to reach every turn
Under the fly-over
I see life pass him by
Not knowing the reason why
As the cars speed by
In the limelight
Kings and queens in strong resolve
These lies that cloud we believe in
Are they different from you and me
We who we think are learned
Humanity’s savior yet a failure
To serve for a higher purpose
And yet its purpose is to serve us
To furnish us with our worldly desires
Under the fly-over
I see our lives pass us by
Not knowing the reason why
As the cars speed by
In the limelight
